One of the most stunning Australian natives when in flower. If pruned when young it will for a loose small shrub shape, but is prone to meandering it’s own way through the garden and will even lightly climb at times if left to it’s own devices. It has heart shaped and slightly prickly leaves, but don’t let this put you off as the it is spectacular in flower. The flowers are bright orange with touches of pink and yellow.

A wonderful feature plant in a flowering border or to grow in a large container. If you are after a light climber then this can also be grown on a trellis, but in my view the far prettier Kennedia conccinea is a better choice for a climber if you can find it.

Thrives in well-drained soils with full sun to partial shade. Regular watering during dry periods is beneficial. Prune lightly to shape after flowering and tip prune young plants regularly as they can get woody and fall over if you don’t keep the shape compact when young. Can be bothered by leaf miner pests but this does not seem to impact flowering – Eco Neem is useful if infested.
