A tough and versatile climber or groundcover with deep purple, pea-like flowers and green foliage. Its cascading blooms add vibrant colour to gardens and many different cultivars are available with variations in colour.

Ideal as a groundcover as it doesn’t tend to overwhelm nearby plants. It is also great for climbing over trellises or softening fences provided you can give it more than a half day of good sunlight. In full sun you will get more reliable flowering and growth. It’s a great choice for native cottage and pollinator gardens, providing seasonal interest as it usually flowers earlier than many of the other spring flowering natives, extending the periods of colour in a garden.

Prefers well-drained soils in full sun for the best flowering, but will also tolerate some light or half shade. Drought-tolerant once established. Prune lightly after flowering to encourage dense, lush growth.
