A small and adorable low-growing plant with masses of bright pink flowers from late winter through to summer. Often described as a perennial but I would consider it short lived and possibly even treated as an annual in humid areas.

It’s a striking but little Lechenaultia, ideal for tumbling out of a hanging basket, nestled in gaps among rocks or dotted along the border of a bright flowering bed. It is so gorgeous in flower and would look incredible mass planted or mixed with white flowering plants such as Pimelea.

Does NOT like humidity. I have read that it likes water in summer but that is not my experience. Most of the pink to red coloured Lechenaultia prefer drier conditions and are much less hardy in humid climates in my experience. You can trick it to some degree by planting in a VERY sandy mix amongst stone and gravel mulch.

Must have well-drained sandy soil and lots of sun. The very slightest amount of shade is okay and treat it mean – let it dry out regularly. Prune lightly (just the tips) for bushy growth. Do not water before a hot day. Feed well when flowering.
