Planting recipe for an Australian Cottage Garden. This combo needs at least a half day of sun. This garden bed that I designed in Sydney was East facing and shaded from mid afternoon. In typical cottage garden style it was densely planted. I recommend over planting if you can and then thin out if you need to. This garden bed was an absolute magnet for native bees too!

Australian Native Planting Recipe #3: This is how I did it for my garden design in Sydney as shown in this photo:
- Alternating grey & green leaves
- If your flower colours are light and bright - pop in something with deep and rich coloured flowers for contrast.
- Pay attention to the predicted maximum height of your plant. This is critical. Smaller plants to the front. - - -Make sure your plants are a variety of sizes to create visual interest.
-Combine tightly clipped rounded forms with upright, strappy & grass like shapes
- Prune eremophila often! To get a rounded shape you will need to prune every month or so when they are young.
- You will need to go to a specialist native nursery or online native nursery to find these plants.

Native Planting recipe for full sun. If it’s a hot spot that will work too - provided you can keep up the water to get these plants established. The Nivea and Dargan at the back, then Tetratheca, Bulbine, Pelargonium, & Flame pea in the middle. Native violets at front, and you could also add a Brachyscome and Chrysocephalum to the low edge of the garden if you have a wide enough garden bed.
